The River series was inspired by the time I spent living in the Hudson Valley and experiencing the Hudson River every day. I lived at the top of a steep road that wound down through the woods to the river’s edge, where my daily walks revealed its endlessly shifting moods. Once called Mahicantuck - meaning “great waters in motion” or “the river that flows two ways”- the Hudson is more than a river; it is a tidal estuary where seawater meets freshwater running from the land. These works explore not only the physical beauty and complexity of this remarkable body of water, but also my own emotional relationship to it.
