The Collection

Imbolc is a body of work inspired by the Celtic celebration marking the midpoint between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox - Imbolg, “in the belly,” a time when the land begins to stir and new life prepares to emerge. Central to this season is the Goddess Brigid, fiery-haired guardian of fire, water, healing, poetry, birth, and transformation. These paintings began taking shape during my walks near my home in Co.Wicklow, where subtle shifts of light and colour embed to mirror the slow, patient turning of the seasons. Composed of webs of resonant colour and near-vanished forms, the works suggest the fullness and potential of new life, capturing a mood or state of mind suspended in paint. As John O’Donohue reminds us, beneath winter’s surface “the miracle of spring is already in preparation… a miraculous, breathing plenitude of colour emerges.”
